Questions And Answers

This weekend I had the honor of working on a documentary. The subject matter was the 2/7, also commonly known as “The Forgotten Battalion” by many. They were deployed in 2008 to Afghanistan and experienced some pretty extreme conditions. The following is a poem I wrote in their honor.

2/7: The Roar

Why must we kill each other
Just to survive?
Why does one man starve
While other men thrive?
If the questions are killing us,
What answer keeps us alive?

The heroes came to the ocean
In hopes of something more.
Early morning pounding waves
But from whence comes the roar?
It comes not from the water
Though there it may start
After a time these is one source
In time, the roar comes from the heart.

Call to arms! Call to arms!
Before another is fallen.
Reject the voice of the Reaper
When he comes a callin’.
If we want to save ourselves
Perhaps the answer, true
Is not for me to save myself
But for me to help you save you.

How do we heal each other
That we may survive?
How do we feed each other
That all of us may thrive?
There may never be one answer,
But through community, we revive…

Prayer
Father, we exalt You. You alone are King. Praise the name YAH! Let Your kingdom come here and let Your will be done here, on earth as it is in heaven. Send us now Your provision. Forgive us our trespasses and transgressions, and help us all to forgive those that have trespassed or transgressed against us. Deliver us from the evil here. Restore unto Your people one thousandfold all the good that has been taken or held back in any way, and the more besides. We ask all these things in the name of YAH Yeshuah HaMashiach, asking them of You, Father King. Amen.
