Peter And The Dogs
The Sabbath is a time of rest and reflection. Today as I reflected on the scriptures I saw something in a different light. It was in Peter’s second letter.
2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
In the past I always considered this to be referring to people that become believers that did not know God, going back to their old ways. Certainly this is not good. However, I believe what we are seeing here Peter describing people that know about the Father giving us His commandments, and then saying that they are not for today. Or saying that the Old Testament is not for today – “…to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” This is further supported by an earlier verse.
2 Peter 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
He is comparing these people to Balaam who was willing to try to self the influence of the Father against the people of Israel, contrary to what Yahuah (Lord) had said. When we speak against God’s commandments, law and precepts, we become these people. Let it not be said so of us who serve the True and Living God, Yahuah (Lord).
Prayer
Father, we exalt You. You are the True King. We praise the name Yahuah. Send us Your overwhelming abundance today. Forgive us our sin. Help us to know and to follow You in Your ways. Heal up our minds and hearts. Deliver us from the evil that we see. Deliver us from the evil that would take from us what You alone have provided Yahuah (Lord). In Yeshua’s (Jesus) name. Amen.
