Doing The Work

Many times I have heard people say that we just need to “do the work”, but not always being clear what that means. It seems as humans we have a tendency to want to know. We want to know what to do, we want to know what is coming next, we want to know what to say. And one of the drivers for this is the ability to “be right” or even the ability to have comfort from being in control. One of these things is to call things by a name, like months or days of the week. Names give us a reference point, and originally it was our job to name all the animals.

Genesis 2:19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

There is something that happens when we name things. It is not completely clear to me what all occurs, but one thing might be that the name fixes for us an image to thing in our mind. This process creates a certain process of completion in our mind.

The work we are to do, beyond the work given to all men, is just that. It is the work we are individually do and/or participate in with others. For that we need to look to our Father, and not to our own understanding.

Proverbs 3:3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Today we will seek our Father, to shy away from evil and to see the good in all people.

Prayer
Father, we exalt You. You alone are our Kng! Praise the name Yahuah! Let Your will be done in this earth as it is in heaven. Send us today Your overwhelming provision such that it overflows to those around us. Forgive us our trespasses and transgressions, and help us all to forgive those that have trespassed and transgressed against us. Heal our hearts and minds, completely removing all thoughts and memories of evil done by us or others. Replace these with thoughts and desires of only You and Your will. Deliver us from the evil here. Do not do these things because of our righteousness, for we are not. Rather, do these because this is Your kingdom, and Your power and Your glory, and will always be. We ask all these things in the name of our Messiah Yeshuah (Jesus). Amen.
