Let There Be Light
Most people have heard the creation story from Genesis where God created the heaven and earth and light.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
When this all started, God created a mass that was heaven and earth. It was dark. He then created light, and separated it from the darkness. So first there was a created mass, and then He added light to it. This is very similar, in fact it foreshadows how God deals with those that follow Him.
1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John says God is light, with no darkness. We are to be just like that, and will be if we DO the truth. And when we struggle, there is a path back to the light. If we confess our sins, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from that sin, and we are back in the light. John also points out that all have and will sin. Therefore, we all need to live in a state of repentance.
Spiritual warfare is not always outside of us. Darkness can be with us if we are doing darkness rather than doing the truth. We can escape that type of darkness. To escape this form of darkness is a part of spiritual warfare where we are fighting for our own salvation. And our weapon is our confession of our sin and asking God to forgive us. He then covers us with the blood of Jesus, which cleanses us. Sometimes the spiritual warfare we need to be pursuing begins with us.
Prayer
Father, we praise You as our King. Please help us today to overcome the darkness in our lives. Show us where we are not doing the truth and help us to repent. If there is external darkness attacking us, we ask that You grind our attackers to powder and blow them away in the wind. Please deliver Your people today Lord. In Jesus’ (Yeshua’s) name. Amen.
